About this event

If you're not familiar with Newport, Rhode Island, Google it.  It is where the Vanderbilts and Astors and Kennedys played decades ago and built massive estates in their own honor.  Many of the homes are open to tours, in case you want to get to town a little earlier in the week, before the Concours.

you won't be alone.  A few of us get up there Wednesday to enjoy the weather and the town's offerings.

Local distractions include a wharf town filled with shops and (really good) restaurants.  The local lobster rolls are epic!

Most importantly though, for the car enthusiast, there is the Audrain museum with Donald Osborne as its CEO and Jay Leno as a local resident who participates in the Concours as a judge.

There's also the VERY impressive Newport Car Museum about a half hour's drive from town.  Look this one up.  It's filled with impressive iron displayed beautifully.

The Concours itself is held on Sunday on the back lawn of Vanderbilt's Breakers - arguably the most-spectacular "cottage" on the island.

Saturday morning features a Cars & Coffee the likes of which you've probably never seen - thousands (plural) of spectacular cars laid out across the sprawling coastal lawn of Fort Adams.

Newport is not as far a drive as one might expect either (about the same as driving from Philly to Pittsburgh), and if you don't relish driving up the coast, consider Amtrak to Providence and then renting a car or Ubering your way to Newport.  For the most part, the downtown area of Newport is very walkable and if you rent a bike, you can see nearly everything worth seeing on the island.

We'll get a forum going for interested parties.  Several of us have gone the last couple years, and the crowd keeps growing.
